Grant Guidelines

The Greehey Family Foundation supports a broad range of community needs with a shared goal of improving the lives of Bexar County residents and beyond. To help ensure funding aligns with our mission and is used effectively, please review the following guidelines and requirements before submitting an application.

The Foundation may request a tour of your agency to better understand the project or program, observe who will be served, and assess the organization’s capacity to fulfill its objectives.

Funding Deadlines

The Foundation’s Board of Directors meets biannually to review applications and the review process may take up to three months following the submission deadline. Applicants are asked to abide by the grant cycle schedule listed below. Requests for immediate or emergency funding are considered at the discretion of the Board.

  • Spring Funding Cycle
    • Applicant Portal is open between January 15 and April 1
    • Deadline is April 1
    • Grants are considered at the Spring Board Meeting
  • Fall Funding Cycle
    • Applicant Portal is open between July 15 and September 30
    • Deadline is September 30
    • Grants are considered at the Fall Board Meeting

Grant Awards & Reporting

The Foundation typically awards each agency one grant per year, and recipients must reapply annually to be considered for additional funding. Grant recipients may not publicly announce awards without prior approval from the Greehey Family Foundation. As part of the application process, agencies are required to submit a brief report detailing how the grant funds from the previous year were used and the outcomes achieved, when applicable. For multi-year pledges, other reporting may be required.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Foundation reviews applications twice a year. Deadlines are April 1 for the Spring Funding Cycle and September 30 for the Fall Funding Cycle.
We recommend submitting your application several weeks before the deadline to ensure all required documents are included and to allow time for review.
The review/selection process may take up to three months following the submission deadline. Applicants will be notified once the Foundation's Board of Directors has made its funding decisions.
Requests outside of the designated deadlines are generally not accepted. However, urgent or emergency funding requests may be considered at the discretion of the Board. While the initial request can be emailed to admin@GreeheyFoundation.org, the Board may also require the agency to submit a formal application.
